Stratton, the only wrestler who has defeated Weyant this season, and Weyant were 1-1 prior to this match. With a scoreless match going into the second period, Weyant took a hard elbow hit above the eye causing a large cut. After being treated by Mt Anthony Athletic trainers he continued his match but came up short 4-1. "Those two boys battle hard every time they meet stated Coach Claude Weyant. Stratton is a great wrestler from a great wrestling program. Stratton wrestled the match well. I was also proud of Cyle's determination even after being injured. Cyle will try to make a few adjustments and get prepared for the State Tournament in two weeks. If things go well, the two will face each other again at that tournament. Weyant ended the regular season with a 37-2 record along with 5 tournament championships."

Junior Jesse McCoy went 0-1 on the day  He lost that match to Justin Fellion of Fair Haven. After that match, McCoy was out for the rest of the day do to illness.

Sophmore Blaze Trayhan although going 1-3 on the day wrestled well. He had a great match with his opponent from Fair Haven, pinning him in the first period. Blaze continues to wrestle hard. He gives it his all and continues to improve.

Freshman Josh Morey went 0-4 on the day.

The Bellows Falls wrestling team traveled on Saturday to Greenfield, Mass High School to participate in a multi team dual tournament. Several schools from the Western Mass. Conference were in attendance.

Leading the way for the Terriers was Junior Cyle Weyant who wrestled at the 112 weight class.  Weyant improved his season to 26-1 by winning all three of his matches by pin. In Weyant's last match of the day he werestled against the third ranked wrestler in Western Mass., Jerry Deyo from Pathfinder High School. Weyant was able to pin Deyo in the second period. Cyle knew that he had to wrestle with his full potential against Deyo, stated Coach CLaude Weyant.  Deyo is a great wrestler however Cyle came out quite fired up and ready.

The Terrier wrestler also learnned today that He was one of six Vermont wrestlers that are currently ranked in New England. Weyant is ranked number 7 at the 112 weight class. Also ranked in the top ten are Mike Bradley at 119 from Mt. Anthony, Chris Lash at 125 from Colchester, George Mitchell at 130 from Otter Valley, Devin Grammo at 145 from Colchester, and Steve Rich at 160 from Spaulding.

Josh Morey and Blaze Trayhan both wrestled hard but came up short in the win column. These two continue to work hard at practice and give it their all at these wrestling events. They get up after a loss, shake off the dust and keep giving it their all. They continue to inprove and their day will come. Jesse McCoy was unable to participate because of illness.

The next event for the Terriers is this coming Wednesday, January 27th. Wrestling against Fair Haven, VT, New Leadership, and Mass High Schools. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 6:00pm.  This is the Terriers last home event.

BF WRESTLERS DO WELL AT FRONTIER REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

The Bellows Falls wrestling team traveled to Frontier Regional High School in Deerfield, Mass. on Saturday to participate in a tri meet with Frontier Regional and New Leadership High Schools.
The Terrier wrestlers won 7 out of 8 total matches they wrestled.  Jesse McCoy, Cyle Weyant, and Josh Morey all had two wins. Blaze Trayhan had one win and one loss.

This was a big day for freshman, Josh Morey winning both matches. Morey, who is a first year wrestler battles it out each week against varsity wrestlers. He usually struggles wrestling against much more experienced wrestlers. Sometimes it can get discouraging but Josh keeps getting up, shakes the dust off and keeps trying. It was nice to see him have the success today stated Coach Claude Weyant.

The Terriers next travel to Greenfield, Mass High School on Saturday, January, 23 to wrestle against five other Mass. schools. Start time is expected to be at 10:00 am.

BF WEYANT WINS BIG AT OTTER VALLEY

The Bellows Falls wrestling team traveled to Otter Valley High School Saturday to participate in the annual Otter Valley Invitational wrestling tournament.

Junior Cyle Weyant improved his season record to 20-1, and was crowned champion for the fourth tournament in a row. Weyant began the day with a bye which put him directly into the semi-finals.  In the semi-finals Weyant faced Otter Valley's Seth Harrington. Weyant defeated Harrington 5-0 in a very tough match.  This is the third time the two have faced each other this year. Weyant defeated Harrington in the finals at the Granville and Middlebury tournaments in December. Harrington is considered the number 3 wrestler in the 112 weight class in Vermont.

After that match Weyant faced Smith Stratton of Mt. Anthony. Weyant won the championship match, 9-2. Stratton was seeded first at the tournament and ranked number one in Vermont. Stratton gave Weyant his only loss in the finals at the ConVal tournament on December 12th winning 4-3. Cyle came out very determined and aggressive stated Coach Claude Weyant. Cyle has been working extremely hard knowing that He would most likely have to face the tough Mt. Anthony wrestler at this tournament. In the first period, Weyant got the takedown and shortly after put Stratton on his back.  With a 5-0 lead Weyant focused on the basics. However both wrestlers continued to battle it out and after the dust settled Weyant was on top 9-2.

This was a big win for Cyle stated Father and Coach Claude Weyant.  Stratton is an outstanding wrestler. He made it to the finals in the Dixie Classic that was held in Alabama last week. That is a nationally recognized tournament. Even though Cyle defeated Stratton last year in the State Championship, Stratton has continued to improve. Mt Anthony has an unbelievable excellent program over there. Wrestlers practice each day with a room full of champion wrestlers and an outstanding Coaching staff. They have a way of improving wrestlers tremendously in just a short period of time. Anytime you defeat a Mt Anthony wrestler on the varsity level, it is a big accomplishment. I look at this victory like winning a world series play-off game said Coach Weyant. You enjoy the moment and the win but you know you have to face the talented opponent again. We will continue to work as hard as we can and do our best to prepare for the next meeting which will most likely be at Mt. Anthony on Feb.13th.

Also participating at the tournament for the Terriers were Josh Morey, Blaze Trayhan, and Jesse McCoy. The three came up short in the win column, each going 0-2 on the day. The three continue to improve each week in their wrestling, stated Coach Weyant. McCoy was right in both of his matches. He was only losing 2-1 to his Rutland opponent when He got caught and was put to his back in the third period. Trayhan showed a much better performance at his new 145 pound weight class. Making that 145 pound weight class will make him more competitive. Both McCoy and Trayhan have been at the 152 pound weight class, which forced Trayhan to have to wrestle at the 160 pound class.

The Terriers next travel to Frontier Regional High School in Deerfield, Mass. on Saturday, Jan. 16th. to participate in a tri-meet. Wrestling is expected to start around 11:00 am.

BF WRESTLERS, WEYANT AND MCCOY PLACE AT KEENE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT

The Bellows Falls wrestling team participated in the annual Keene Holliday Wrestling Tournament at Keene High School Saturday.

Junior Cyle Weyant won the championship at the 112 pound weight class. Weyant started out by receiving a bye. In the semi-finals, Weyant pinned Dana Colburn from ConVal High School in 22 seconds. In his finals match Weyant pinned Carleton Kleinschrodt of White Mt. High School in 1 minute and 20 seconds. Kleinschrodt is ranked fourth in NH division 2 wrestling. He is surely a good respectable wrestler however Cyle wrestled him well at the tournament said Coach Claude Weyant. Cyle increased his season record to 18-1. This makes three tournament championships in a row for Cyle however the real test is coming up in one week on Jan 9th at Otter Valley High School. If things do go well, Cyle will be facing Smith Stratton of Mt. Anthony. Stratton is the only wrestler that has beat Cyle this season, 4-3 in the finals at the ConVal tournament in early December. Those two battle every time they meet. It should be a good match if they do face each other at Otter Valley. I know Cyle is working hard and I have no doubt Stratton is doing the same.

It was an exciting day for Junior Jesse McCoy who wrestled at the 152 pound weight class. After receiving a bye, McCoy faced Evan Bilodeau of Spaulding High School.  ilodeau is one of the  top wrestlers in Vermont. McCoy was hanging in there pretty tough only trailing by two points, when McCoy got caught and Bilodeau was able to pin McCoy. McCoy came back and placed third by defeating Robie Cyr in the consolation finals. McCoy pinned Cyr 3 minutes and 8 seconds into the match. This was McCoy's first top three finish. He has worked hard over the past three years. I was really happy to see Jesse bring home a trophy for third place. It was a trophy well deserved.

Also participating in the tournament for Bellows Falls was Blaze Trayhan and Josh Morey. Trayhan and Morey came up empty in the win column. Both wrestlers are giving the best they can. Their day will come stated Coach Weyant. They keep hanging in there and working hard.

The Terriers next travel to Otter Valley High School on Jan 9th, to participate in the Otter Valley Invitational Tournament. Wrestling starts at 9:30 am.

BF WEYANT CROWNED CHAMPION AT MIDDLEBURY TOURNAMENT

The Bellows Falls wrestling team participated in a two day tournament, Tuesday and Wednesday at Middlebury High School. THis was the 38th annual Hubie Wagner Tournament. Junior Cyle Weyant won all six of his matches during the event, improving his record to 16-1 this season. Weyant who wrestles at the 112 pound weight class met Otter Valley's Seth Harrington in the championship match. Weyant won the match 8-0.

This was a rematch of the championship match at the Granville, NY tournament that the two wrestled on 12-19. Weyant won that match 9-0. Weyant  pinned all of his opponents prior to the finals. Coach Claude Weyant stated that Cyle continues to wrestle well. I am pleased where Cyle is at, at this point in the season. We do have a little fine tunning to do yet but overall he is wrestling very well. Cyle works very hard at practice and after hours. Coach Weyant stated that Harrington is considered to be amoung the top three wrestles in the State in the 112 pound weight class. Harrington has really improved over the years which is a credit to his dedication and the program at Otter Valley.

Junior Jesse McCoy also participated in the tournament at the 152 pound weight class. McCoy went 3-2. He won matches against wrestlers from Cohoes, Cambridge, and Brookline, NY high schools. He was defeated by top seeded Brian Ashley-Selleck from Middlebury and a second Cohoes, NY wrestler. McCoy wrestled well considering that he has just returned to the mat a few days ago after recovering from an injury.

Neither Blaze Trayhan or Josh Morey participated at the event due to illness.

The Terriers next travel to Keene High School on Saturday, Jan. 2 to participate in the annual David Minickiello Holiday Tournament. Wrestling is expected to start at 9:30am.

BF WEYANT CROWNED TOURNAMENT CHAMPION AT GRANVILLE, NY

For the third year in a row, Bellows Falls wrestler Cyle Weyant was crowned champion at the annual Granville,NY Lions wrestling invitational tournament on Saturday. Fourteen schools from Vermont and New York participate in the annual event. Weyant who wrestled at the 112 pound weight class went 3-0 during the day. In the first preliminary round, Weyant received a bye. In the quarter finals, Weyant pinned Jesse Owens of Granville in 28 seconds. In the semi-final round, Weyant pinned Jay Oakes of Galway, NY in 2 minutes and 22 seconds. In the championship match, Weyant defeated Seth Harrington of Otter Valley, 9-0. Cyle wrestled quite well today, said Coach Claude Weyant. His semi final match against the Galway wrestler was one of the best matches that I have seen him wrestle through the years.  He really prepared himself mentally as He prepared to face a tough Galway wrestler. Weyant has improved his season record to 10-1. As a Freshman, Weyant won the tournament at the 103 pound weight class and as a Sophmore won it at the 112 pound weight class.

Freshman Josh Morey also participated at the tournament at the 135 pound weight class.  Josh continues to wrestle hard. It is sometimes difficult for a first year wrestler to be thrown into these tough Varsity tournaments, however Josh wrestled hard and continues to improve.
Blaze Trayhan and Jess McCoy were slated to participate in this tournament but were unable to due to sickness.

The Terrier wrestling team is off until Dec 29 and 30, when they travel to Middlebury to participate in the two day annual Hubie Wagner tournament.

BELLOWS FALLS WRESTLES AT MILL RIVER

The Bellows Falls High School wrestling team traveled to Mill River Wed. to wrestle against Mill River and Grandville, NY. The Terriers went with three wrestlers. The Terriers were led by Junior Cyle Weyant, who wrestled the 112 pound weight class. Weyant defeated each of his opponents by pinning them during the first period. Weyant is now 7-1 on the season. Also participating were Josh Morey at the 135 pound weight class and Blaze Trayhan at 152 pounds. Neither Morey nor Trayhan were successful during the evening, however each wrestler continued to improve each time they wrestled, said Coach Claude Weyant. Jesse McCoy, who is recovering from an injury, did not participate but will be joining the team this Sat. in Granville, NY as they participate in the annual Lions Invitational Tournament. Starting time is 9:30 am at the Granville High School.

BELLOWS FALLS WRESTLING STRUGGLES AT CONVAL

The Bellows Falls wrestling team participated in the annual ConVal wrestling tournament that was held in Peterborough, NH, Saturday. Due to injuries the Bellows Falls wrestling team only went with Cyle Weyant and Blaze Trayhan.

Cyle Weyant took second at the 112 pound weight class. After pinning his first two opponents, Cyle Weyant suffurred a tough loss in the finals to Mt Anthony's Smith Stratton 4-3. It was Stratton who Weyant defeated this past Feburary to win the State Championship at the 103 pound weight class. Coach Claude Weyant stated that Stratton wrestled hard and well. Coach Weyant stated that Weyant and Stratton have gone back and forth their last four meetings. Both wrestlers put their whole heart into the match each time they wrestle. It was a tough loss but Cyle will continue to work hard. We will try to make some adjustments. We have a long season ahead of us and most likely these two will face off against each other at least three more times this year. We will do our best to prepare for the next meeting.

Also participating was Blaze Trayhan at the 152 pound weight class. Blaze lost his first two matches and by doing so was out of the tournament.  Blaze has come a long ways.  This is only his second year wrestling,  both on the varsity level.  Blaze wrestled some of the best that I have seen him wrestle during his second match. Blaze continues to get up one more time then He gets knocked done.  He continues to work extrememly hard at each practice. He keeps coming back and never gives up.

Bellows Falls travels to Mill River on Wednesday for a 6pm match with both Mill River and Grandville, NY.
