Stepping Stones Classroom News
September 2010
Dear Families,
The school year has finally begun! I hope you enjoyed your summer. I have been busy planning lots of fun activities for the upcoming year. Each month I will be sending home a newsletter to inform you of what is going on in the classroom and other important reminders or announcements. It is important that you look for the newsletter in your childís mailbox and read it each month.
Our first theme this year is ìAll About Meî. Children will have opportunities to share about themselves with the rest of the class and learn about their new friends. This will help us to build the classroom community. As a part of our ìAll About Meî theme, there will be an at home project for the children to complete. Make sure to look for that in your mailbox!
We will also be doing an apple theme this month. We will learn about Johnny Appleseed, colors of apples, the way an apple looks inside, apple tasting and apple crafts. We are also going to be taking a field trip to the apple orchard. A permission slip will come home soon.
I want to remind families that pickup times are at 12:30 and 5pm. Beginning on September 10, there will be a late charge for anyone who picks up after their scheduled time. The charges are $5 for the first 5 minutes and $1 for each minute after the initial 5 minutes.
Attached is our first Scholastic Book Order. By ordering books you will help our class earn points toward new books or classroom materials. If you would like to order from this months book order, please turn in your order form by Friday September 24th. Thank you for supporting our school.
To stay up to date, you can check our website at http://wswsu.org/Preschool/SSP/. There you will find our newsletters, classroom pictures, and up to date information about what is happening in our classroom. Also, check us out on facebook!
I look forward to a great year working with your children!
Thank you,
Mallory Smith
Dates to Remember:
September 29- No School- Teacher In-Service
To celebrate the letter "P", students and staff at Stepping Stones made pizza for snack, learned about penguins, painted and had a pajama day! What a "P"erfect week!
In January, Stepping Stones Preschool was excited to have Marisol Lucero (above) teach the children music and movement from her native country, Cuba. The children danced the meringue, the cha-cha-cha, and the samba. They also played with maracas and the clavek.
On February 1, Suzanna Smith (above) came to Stepping Stones to sing a Spanish song and dance the meringue with the children. She also shared a slide show and tapestries from her native Ecuador. These programs were made possible by a grant from the Cavendish Community Fund to enhance our Spanish education program.
Children practice writing letters and drawing pictures in the shaving cream!
In November the children learned about Thanksgiving. Here they are making their own butter just like Pilgrims.
Ludlow Ambulance came to Stepping Stones Preschool as a part of our community people theme. The children were able to take a tour of the ambulance and learn how the ambulance helps people.
Stepping Stones Preschool recently received a very generous monetary donation from Christopher's restaurant in Ludlow, VT. We would like to send out a huge thank you from the students, staff and board of directors for supporting their local preschool by helping defray the cost of much needed everyday supplies. Today's tough economic conditions can make it difficult for Stepping Stones to meet all the childrens' needs without the generous support of community leaders like Christopher's. Thank you so much!
If you, or someone you know, would like to join Chrisopher's Restaurant in contributing to the success of Stepping Stones Preschool, your much appreciated contribution will qualify as a tax deduction. Stop by the school office and speak with Kim Sherman, or call the preschool at 226-7760, for more information.
